It is not easy being the boss



It requires effort, vision, dedication, passion, perseverance, patience, sacrifice and risk taking ability to start a business and then to sustain it and take it towards success. You have to work hard in order to achieve something meaningful, in order to be successful.
What do we need to do as entrepreneurs if we have to succeed in our ventures? We have to make money no doubt, but that’s only one aspect of being a businessman. More than that we have to know how to play against our competitors, how to beat them at their own game – that is success. We also need to have the ability to charm people around us so that they can work with us and help us succeed.

Steps that are not always easy on people
However it is not all about just being charming and winning friends. When you are the leader, you have to make decisions for your business, you have to take certain steps that are not always easy on people around you. Your decisions may be harsh at times, it might make people unhappy, but sometimes it just has to be done. You have to be professional when you are running a business – that is key to doing well.
At times even when someone is close to you, you may have to be strict and harsh with them, for the good of the organization. If you do not take a tough stand, it will end up harming the organization. So be professional, leave personal feelings aside because that is what is needed for maintaining office discipline.

Running a business professionally
Being strict rather than friendly is good for running a business professionally. If you let up and get soft with people due to a personal rapport, they may take advantage of your goodness and not do their work properly. Or they may end up shirking responsibility. They may miss deadlines and do shoddy work knowing you will cover for them. My advice is do not let that happen. It is your business, your effort, your money – so do not let people take advantage of a personal relationship with you, when there is work to be done.
In business you need to be ruthless. Getting emotional is bad for business – be firm, be just. Do what is necessary for your business to succeed. As the boss, take a stand, be harsh when required. Being hard-headed and professional is what will help your business and all those who work for you.
