The virtue of honesty

Honesty is a necessary and valuable virtue when you are trying to make your way in this world. Many people use dishonest means to achieve “success” but when they do that they compromise their values and morals. So it is necessary to understand the importance of values and principles and ethics in our life as we battle the competitive world around us.

We grow up with beliefs and principles that are imparted to us by our family – parents, siblings, family elders. When we go to school, our teachers instill some more values in us. These values are what we are - they are our identity batch. When we meet other people once we grow up, they also have an effect on our overall thinking and on our principles and values – whether good or bad.
Importance we give money
While we all realise that money is important we need to understand that it is not the be-all and end-all of our lives. We need to control how much importance we give money.
We need to turn our mind to what are the other important things that we should focus our attention on. Our values and principles are part of this. Over time, our thoughts, views, opinions and perceptions , should change and become broader in nature. This means that we should develop such values which will help us in becoming better and responsible individuals.
Things which hurt us
Some of the things we should inculcate are, to let go of things which hurt us, to forgive and forget, to become more broad minded in our approach towards everything, be grateful to people who have helped us in your trying times etc. This will make us better people.
As we grow richer, we should become richer in our thoughts and deeds. We should become more generous and charitable, so that people like and respect us, not avoid us because we are being mean and small-minded.
So we all need to become better human beings, more loving, forgiving, giving, and appreciating of others.
