Commitment
is one of the keys to success. It is a serious matter in your personal and
professional life. So when you commit, remember you need to honor it. It shows
your integrity and sense of responsibility. So think things through before you
commit – commit only when you know you can and will deliver. Go through these
steps before you commit to anything:
Check
if you are ready for the task of committing. It is not easy – it requires time,
energy, concentration. At times, it requires you to make some sacrifices, make
changes in your life, routine, daily schedules. You may think you are ready to
do all this to meet your targets – but stop and assess the situation
objectively and practically. Ensure that you are ready in all respects before
you commit.
All that it takes to
honor the commitment
Secondly,
check if you actually have all that it takes to honor the commitment. You might
have the intent and sense of responsibility, but do you have the time required
to see it through? If you have a lot of other things taking up your time, you
may not be able to do this properly. Check your calendar and see if you have
time and energy to fulfill this task.
Finally
see if you have all the required material resources to fulfill your obligations
on this task. Be honest, be practical. Do you have everything you need – maybe
space, or equipment, or raw material or transportation or the requisite
licenses and permits? Step forward only if everything is in place. Otherwise
stop for now.
Keeping
your word or breaking it defines your reputation. So think things through
before committing to anything and once you commit do everything possible to
honor it.
