Most
of us define success in terms of the material things they possess – a car,
house, jewelry etc. But success is more than just that. The dictionary defines
success as what gives positive results or attaining what you hope for. But
since everybody hope and desires different things there is no objective
definition for the word. So we should try to understand and be aware of our
ultimate goals and when we achieve that, then we can say we are successful. And
then we will be in a better position to define success.
Money
is a very necessary commodity in life. It gets us the things we require and
such has its own importance and significance in this materialistic world. But
we end up giving money too much importance and assume it is a symbol of
success. It is not always so.
What is the point in
accumulating so much of wealth?
What
is the point in accumulating so much of wealth that at the end of the day you
are unable to sleep peacefully at night without any worries? Or working and
earning so much wealth that you miss being part of your child’s growing up
years? Or being so busy or unavailable to your near and dear ones especially
when they need you the most? If you understand what the underlying meaning of
these questions is, you will also realize that there could possibly be another
dimension to the definition of success.
If
you touch people’s lives positively and are there for them when they need you,
then you derive inner satisfaction and happiness from doing so. That to me is
success. Appreciate the people in your life, do good and be good and when you
are no more people will remember how you helped them and brought happiness to
their lives – and that is true success.
